Today was a hectic day. It was my sweet little Grant's birthday. Unfortunately, it fell on a weekday... and not just any weekday... a super busy weekday. Gracie had an after school program class from 2:30-3:30. Then gymnastics from 5- 7:30. Garrett and Grant both had baseball games. Garrett played at 5:00 and Grant played at 5:30. They have to be to the baseball fields an hour early for warm-ups. Anyway, I picked Gracie up from the school and took her home to get ready for gymnastics. While she was getting ready I ran the boys over to the baseball fields and dropped them off. I then drove back home, picked up Gracie and drove her across town to gymnastics. Finally, I had 10 minutes to finish Grant's birthday shopping. He had asked for a new hamster for his birthday, which was not really a present I could buy in advance. So, I rushed off to Petsmart to purchase "Dusty", his sweet, new little friend. I had called Russ and asked him to prepare the cage before heading over to the baseball games. He asked if we could just wait until after the game, but I was pretty adamant that it needed to be done first so that the little hamster didn't get traumatized. He said okay and went home to clean and prepare Dusty's cage.
As I was leaving Petsmart, I got a call from my mom. "Are you here?", she asked- meaning was I at Garrett's game. I said, "Not yet. I am just leaving Petsmart and will be there in 15 minutes". She asked, "Is Russ here?". "No. He is on his way. I had him clean the hamster cage first, so he will be a couple of minutes late as well." "Oh my goodness. You both missed it! Garrett just hit a homerun, over the fence, in left center. It went right over the 270 sign! It was so awesome!"
Now either Russ or I have been at every single game Garrett has ever played in for the past 10 years. One of us is always there, but usually both of us are. This was the first time that both of us were not at his game, and how did he make us pay for it? He hit his first ever homerun with neither of us there to see it. I was so sad! Maybe we should not attend more of his games.

I'm so glad we got to be there to see Garrett's great homerun. It was a thrill!
This boy is going to go far places with his baseball career. How exciting!
