When Life Hands You LEMONS

It's okay to have an all out melt down!
This past week has been a nightmare. On Monday, one of our tennis players at the Huntsman World Senior Games went into full cardiac arrest in the middle of his tennis match. His opponent jumped the net and began administering CPR. Luckily the man lived and went in for open heart surgery on Thursday and is now one of my patients. The games are extra crazy this year due to massive rain storms. Three of the first four days, games were either cancelled or delayed due to the rain. YUCK!
On Tuesday evening I went to Wal Mart to buy four things: a binder for Garrett, hamster food for the pets, buns for dinner, and a treat for Lou. I didn't realize until Wednesday morning at 5:45 a.m. that I had left my wallet at the store. I called Wal Mart to see if they had it. Nope. I then drove over to the store to look around for it. Nothing. I had them search every drawer, cupboard, cash register. It was not there. Throughout the day both Russ and I called the store to see if it had been turned in. Finally, Sasha with security called me and said she had reviewed the security tapes and my wallet had been stolen by a customer. She said that was all she could tell me and if I wanted to know more, I had to file a police report. So, I did. Officer Linton came right over and left me with some paperwork to fill out while he went over to Wal Mart. He said on the tape he could see me leave and could see my wallet sitting next to the ATM machine. Then a couple with a baby came through. They left and the next customer walked up. She noticed the wallet and yelled at the couple that had just left and the girl came back and took my wallet. SO SAD! Officer Linton said the couple had used their debit card so they have all of their information, he just has to wait for Wal Mart corporation to release the info to him. I am not hopeful that I will get it back, but I am anxious to see what happens with it all. In the meantime, I have had to cancel all of my bank cards and credit cards and that is a HUGE hassle.
On Friday, I finally had a day off. I was looking forward to getting a couple of things done because I had really good coverage at all of the sporting events, and I didn't have to provide medical coverage anywhere. Well, Russ woke up and couldn't see. His eyes were burning and he was EXTREMELY sensitive to light. He couldn't even look at the screen on his phone. I called first thing and scheduled an appointment with the eye doctor. I drove Russ to the doctor while he complained about the light the entire time. The other bad part of the experience is that Russ is deaf and reads lips. He couldn't read my lips because he couldn't open his eyes, so I was having to repeat myself and scream 4-5 times. We were both really frustrated. I led him into the office like he was a blind man because he couldn't open his eyes. They asked for my insurance cards. Sure- oh wait they are in my wallet, which some piece of crap stole on Tuesday. They were kind and we finally figured out enough information they could work with. The doctor finally came in about an hour later to see Russ. He said that Russ had a viral infection and basically had cold sores on his eyeballs. He said Russ had at least a dozen open lesions on his right eye and the nerves were exposed. That was why light, air, moisture, everything, was hurting his eyes so bad. He gave Russ a prescription. We went to have it filled. Again- no insurance cards. Luckily, they were able to pull it up from the kids accounts. The prescription was going to cost $172.00. I am happy to pay whatever it costs to get Russ well, but really? I asked if there was something else they could prescribe that maybe had a generic. She said she would call the doctor and call me later when she heard from him. Well we found a generic for the bargain price of $130.00 Yippee. Only they didn't have it at our pharmacy, but they had it at the hospital. I drove clear across town to pick it up. Guess what? We had never filled a prescription there. No record of our insurance, no insurance cards, no ID, nothing. Luckily, the gal at Albertson's pharmacy used to work at the hospital pharmacy and was able to get them my insurance information. But, my temporary debit card from the bank did not work. I had to leave and drive over to the bank, pull out cash, and drive back to the hospital to get the medication. It was 5:15 when I finally got home. I had not eaten all day. I had been dealing with my husband, who gets extremely grouchy when he is sick. And I had to have Gracie over to the school in 10 minutes for a choir performance. I was not a happy person. However, Gracie's little choir brightened my spirits. Gracie was super cute and animated and had a huge smile on her face the entire time. It was the highlight of my pitiful week.
Saturday, proved to be a much better day. Russ could open his eyes. He was in a good mood. The boys both won their football games. Grant scored an extra point carrying the ball. It was a beautiful day and the weather was perfect.
Today, I was released from serving as the 1st counselor in the Primary Presidency. I have served in that position for almost 5 years straight, under three different Primary Presidents and I have written 4 or 5 primary programs. I was sad to be released, yet I am so ready for a change. I did not get a new calling yet. They are giving me one week to relax.

What a week. All I can say is I am so sorry...and hang in there. I am so glad Russ is doing better. I have been so worried because that seems like such an odd thing...and I hate odd medical problems.
Sure love you...hope this week is better.

Oh Kori, that is the worst story that I have ever heard. I just read this story to my entire family and they are all sad for you. Gary wants to know how Russ got cold sores in his eyes. That is horrible.

Gracie does make the world a better place!!

I got a card from my bishops wife once that said..."When the world hands you lemons...stuff them in your bra". Sometimes I think about that and laugh...except on days when the world is handing me lemons...cause those days are really hard. :)
I tell you what...the world handed me a lemon...in the form of a JEEP. I wish it would run over itself a few times so I could have lemonade!

OH Kori this is an awful week! I can't believe those people who stole your wallet. Sometimes I get shocked at people and the things they do. I am glad that your week got better though. I am sure Gracie did a beautiful job and I am so glad that Russ is feeling better. Boy Brian can sure identify with the eye thing and I sure can identify with the whole having to lead him around and the grouchy attitude. Being released from callings is always a little bitter sweet-isn't it. It's like your ready to move on and a little sad to move on. It's a crazy thing. I'm excited to see where they put you next. I hope this week is going better! Hang in there!
