Look out kindergarten, I'm on my way!

On Thursday, Gracie graduated from pre-school at Dixie College. They had a big ceremony at the school where the kids performed some songs and little cheers. One of my favorite cheers was:

So look out kindergarten... I'm on my way!!!

After the performance, the kids were dressed in caps and gowns. The girls wore red and the boys were in gray (Dixie's colors). They walked through a big "D" and were given a diploma. The first picture is of Gracie and her teacher, Mrs. Teresa Provost. The second is just a cute cap and gown picture. The third is of her jumping for joy. And the last picture is of her receiving her Diploma.

Gracie loved pre-school and learned so much. She is already reading quite well. She knows all of her letters and the sounds they make. She knows her numbers, how to count by 2's, and how to write each of her letters. We are so proud of her. Congratulations Gracie!

It's great to be 8!!!

Grant celebrated his 8th birthday on April 24th! This was a big one. He will be getting baptized on May 3rd. (That means new posts next week) We are very excited for him. Grant celebrated his birthday by going to school, attending Garrett's baseball game and eating dinner at Texas Roadhouse. I know that is not very exciting. We had a party on Saturday with pizza, cake and ice cream and lots of presents. On his actual birthday he got a Nintendo DS. We haven't seen his face since.

DANG! He is sooooo cute! He is our Toothless Wonder with 4 holes in his mouth. It really is amazing that he can still eat.

I will tell you a little about Grant...

Grant is the middle child in our family. He has an older brother, Garrett, who is 10 and a younger sister, Gracie, age 4. Grant is our easy going kid. He is always happy and very easy to please. At age 8, Grant's very favorites things are:

Sports: Basketball, Baseball and Soccer (the sports he played this year) He will begin playing tackle football in the fall... YIKES!

Subject in school: Math- I guess one of our kids got some of Kori's genes. Grant will tell you that his favorite part of school is recess. His least favorite part of school is writing. If you want to lose Grant's attention fast, ask him to write something.

Color: White-is that a color?

Things to do: play his Nintendo DS, Gameboy, collect Pokemon cards, listen to his mom read books aloud, listen to his i-pod, play with his siblings, cousins, and friends

Books: Charlie Bone (the Red King series), The Magic Treehouse series (Grant has read 27 of the 39 books so far), Harry Potter series, The Chronicles of Narnia series. Can you tell we take reading very series-ly?

Friends: Garrett and Gracie, his cousins (too many to name them all), Garrett Smith, Zach Nowatzky, Jacob Brostrom, Corby Fausett, Matt Kitchen, Alex Christensen, Amber Hawkins, Josh Monson, Jase Mendenhall and Tanner Beckstrom

Food: Pizza, Steak, watermelon and corn

Songs: Numb (Linkin Park), I Like to Move It (from the movie Madagascar), and church music, "All of it".

Kori's favorite story of Grant is when she went to parent/teacher conference in December of his Kindergarten year. His teacher said, " I am sure enjoying having your little "Buckinbole" in my class". Kori questioned what she meant by "Buckinbole". His teacher proceeded to tell Kori that Grant had told his class that we changed his name to Buckinbole (that was how he had been spelling it). His kindergarten class had been calling him that since September! To this day whenever Kori runs into his kindergarten teacher, she asks how her little Buckinbole is doing. We still wonder what she must have been thinking of his wacko parents that changed his name to Buckinbole and spelled it like that! Do the words "white trash" come to your mind???

We love you Grant! Happy 8th Birthday!

Major Hit

Garrett was drafted this year into the American League Majors. That is a big deal here in St. George. He is one of two ten year olds on his team. The rest of the team are 11 and 12. He has been struggling with hitting due to the new speed of pitches. His team is doing great and have won all of their games except for one (they tied). Last Thursday, Garrett got his first big hit. He smacked it right past the short stop and out into left field. We are so excited for him!

We are the Champions

Grant's basketball team went undefeated this season! They were the Clippers. Grant's comment about this was, "The real Clippers suck. But my team, the Clippers, we're awesome". They had some really exciting games. In the semi-finals, they went into over-time against our big rivals, the Bobcats. We won by four. In the championship game we were behind most of the game, but came back in the 4th quarter to beat the Cav's. YAY Grant!!

No more training wheels!!!

Gracie asked if we could take the training wheels off of her bike. We agreed, thinking it would last about thirty seconds before she asked to have them put back on. Kori took off the training wheels and Gracie took off down the street. Kori made her stop so that she could put on her running shoes to be by her side. Needless to say, Kori got in a great workout... not much stopping time. We live in a great neighborhood and all of our neighbors were outside cheering Gracie on. (I think most were waiting to see how long Kori would last!) Gracie's a natural and now thinks she can go anywhere she wants on her bike.

We are just trying our hand at this whole blogging trend. This is just an attempt to see how it works. Someday we may post something worthwhile.
